Mask Status

Dear WCSC Families,

All schools in WCSC will continue to require masks for students and staff for the week of February 7-11. While school numbers for positive cases and students/staff in quarantine are finally falling, county numbers still indicate that community spread is a concern. Please know that we will reevaluate this issue each Friday morning and then post the status of our schools on our webpage each Friday by 5:00 PM.

It is important for families to know the state rules our schools are required to follow, depending on our mask status. Per Indiana Department of Health guidelines, schools that require masks no longer must identify or quarantine close contacts during the school day. When a school is mask-optional, students within six feet of a positive case are deemed close contacts and those students must go home unless they are vaccinated or have had the virus in the previous 90 days.

During the last few weeks of January, we saw learning and extracurricular activities being disrupted due to the high number of positive cases and close contact isolations. By moving back to a mask-required environment, we were able to keep close-contact students in school and immediately reduce our quarantine numbers. Our students need to be in school, and when community numbers go up, requiring masks is the strategy our state encourages and supports through their IDOH guidelines.

Please note that beginning next Friday, all COVID 19 information, including case numbers and each school’s mask status, can be found at https://www.warrick.k12.in.us/about/covid.php
